The most populous city in the Indian state of Jharkhand at the moment is Ranchi, its capital. Ranchi served as the focal point of the Jharkhand movement, which called for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Orissa, western West Bengal, and the eastern portion of what is now Chhattisgarh to have their own state. The state of Jharkhand was created on November 15, 2000, when the Bihar divisions of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas were split.

After splitting from the erstwhile Bihar University, Ranchi University was established as an independent institution on July 12, 1960 (RU Gazette Notification Certificate 1960_framed). It started with one constituent college, twenty affiliated colleges, and ten postgraduate departments. The University now serves over 160,000 students through 22 postgraduate departments, 19 constituent colleges, and 47 linked institutions. Its establishment was a significant step in expanding access to higher education, especially for the impoverished and tribal residents of the area.

RIMS

The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is Ranchi University's Medical Institute, located in Ranchi, Jharkhand's state capital. The college is an autonomous body established by an act of the Jharkhand Assembly and is ranked among the top medical colleges in the state and India.

The institute was formed in 1960 and was previously known as Rajendra Medical College Hospital, after India's first president, Rajendra Prasad. The Medical College Hospital was established in February 1965.Dr. N.L. Mitra was the college's first principal. Dr. K.P. Shrivastava became the Institute's first director after its renaming.RIMS is now in the news due to its overhaul. The Institute offers patients free medical services as well as essential drugs. RIMS is one of the top educational institutions in Ranchi.
