Washington Sundar will turn 26 in 2025. He was born in Chennai on October 5, 1999. M. Sundar, Sundar's father, is a cricket player who qualified for the Tamil Nadu Ranji probables but was left off the final squad. Shailaja Sundar, who goes by M. S. Shailaja, is his sister and a professional cricket player. He completed his undergraduate studies at Chennai's Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science after receiving his early education at St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School.
Washington Sundar's Stats and Career
In October 2016, Sundar made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy for 2016–17. During the 2017–18 Ranji season, he got his first-ever first-class century for Tamil Nadu against Tripura in October 2017. In 2016, he was also selected for the Indian U-19 World Cup squad.
He was selected to replace Ravichandran Ashwin by the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017. On April 22, 2017, he made his Twenty20 debut for the Rising Pune Supergiants.
In the 2018 IPL auction, he was acquired by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in January 2018. He was selected to the India C team for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy in October 2018. At the 2022 IPL Auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad paid Rs 8.75 crore for the all-rounder from Tamil Nadu. He was an SRH 2022–2024 player.
A career abroad
In November 2017, Sundar was selected for the Twenty20 International team of India for the series against Sri Lanka. After Kedar Jadhav had a hamstring injury, he was previously named to India's One Day International (ODI) squad for the same series. His maiden international wicket came against Sri Lanka on December 13, 2017, as he made his ODI debut for India, taking out Lahiru Thirimanne. On December 24, 2017, he played his first Twenty20 International match for India against Sri Lanka. He made his debut as India's youngest T20I player at the age of 18 years and 80 days.
Sundar was selected to play for India in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, which featured matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. His economical bowling during the powerplay, which averaged less runs, won him praise from many.
