Usha Vance Biography

Usha Chilukuri Vance, the wife of Donald Trump's running mate J.D. Vance, is expected to become the first Second Lady of Indian descent in the United States. Her family is from Andhra Pradesh, India.




Who is Usha Vance? 


Usha Chilukuri Vance was born to Indian parents who relocated to the United States from Andhra Pradesh in 1986. She was raised in a suburb of San Diego, California. Her family has helped the community by donating land for temples since they moved overseas more than 50 years ago. 


She graduated from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in history and then went on to do a Master of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge as a Gates Scholar.


Usha Vance Personal Life 


Usha and JD Vance met at Yale Law School and married in a Hindu wedding ceremony in 2014. They've have three kids together.


Throughout his political career, Usha has been a reliable ally of JD Vance, often accompanying him on the Ohio Senate campaign road. She also contributed to JD Vance's well-known autobiography, Hillbilly Elegy, which sheds light on the struggles of rural America and was adapted into a Ron Howard movie.


Usha Vance: Professional Background


 Usha served in significant editorial roles as Managing Editor and Executive Development Editor of the Yale Journal of Law & Technology and The Yale Law Journal, respectively, prior to her appointment as the prospective Second Lady. At the moment, Usha Vance is employed by a San Francisco legal firm as a corporate litigator. She has also served as a clerk for Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts of the U.S. Supreme Court.
